What’s all the fuss about Christmas?

I know it’s been a while and yes an update Blog and Vlog will be published soonest.

So I used to be super duper excited about the Christmas season and all that comes with it. Although a lot of people say they’ve outgrown the Holiday excitement as responsibilities set in and they are no longer on the receiving end and probably don’t even get any Holiday at Christmas (that’s not me). Christians also emphasis a lot about Jesus being the reason for the season in their Christmas messages and greetings. For the first time, since I can remember, I didn’t even think so much of the Christmas festivities until a few days to Christmas. Except for the dust and dryness that comes with Hamarttan, it would have felt like any other month of the year but December. What happened to me? Did I also outgrow the fuss? Did something go wrong that overwhelmed my thoughts?

Well, let me tell you…

Trust me, I didn’t outgrow the fuss. I was still looking forward to Christmas earlier in the year (that’s why I applied for my annual leave for December). Something actually did overwhelm my thoughts. Something worth finding out which I will link to the entire Christmas celebration.

Let me say I have been on a journey of re-discovery. What is the primary purpose for my existence? What does it really mean to be a Christian? How do I live daily for Christ? The simple-deep answer is summed up in the story of a Manufacturer who created a mobile phone functioning at it’s optimal state. A member of his team gets jealous and then decides to create a virus that will disrupt the smooth functioning of the mobile device once it gets to the hand of the user. The user now has the mobile device, but the virus is affecting the functionality of the device. The manufacturer then decides to build an app that can be downloaded on the device, this app will wipe away all previous settings and cause a reset. The device now begins to operate through this app and has complete immunity over all kinds of viruses.

Although the manufacturer has provided a way out, it is left to the user to allow the app take control of the device settings and functions for optimal performance. God is the creator who created us in his image, sin is the virus the enemy planted into us to disrupt our functionality. God then provided a way out that involves Jesus coming to be the example of the life he expects of us. Jesus is the app that was sent to restore us back to the original purpose of being God’s image. It is only in His image that we can be used for His glory. Now, my thoughts have been…

  • How much of my old settings (self/flesh) is still in control?
  • Christ is the example laid down for us to imitate, am I really living as He did?
  • He left all his rights and stooped to the lowest position possible, am I not still holding on to my rights and achievements as if they determine my future?
  • This is the reason for the season, to find our purpose and by His grace fulfil it.

Our primary purpose is to be conformed to the image of his son (Rom. 8:29) whom he sent to us and whom we celebrate his birth at Christmas.

Don’t make any resolutions for the new year, just make a commitment to submit to God’s purpose for your life and become like Jesus in 2016.

I wish you a purposeful new year. . .
